Our Philosophy
Philosophy: We believe our philosophy guides our practice and shapes our service culture.
Vision Statement: To open minds and inspire learning.
Children
Blue Group Children believe: They should have friends and be with others.
We act to: Play together, ask peers’ names, and help each other. They strive to do this by using gentle hands, giving cuddles, and enjoying playing together.
Yellow Group Children believe: They should explore new things and places in the community and happily play with their friends.
We act to: Engage in educator-planned activities, participate in excursions, and play nicely with friends.
Green Group Children believe: They should be happy and safe at Kindy. They want to respect their friends, educators, environment, and themselves.
We act to: Take care of ourselves by applying sunscreen before playing outside, engaging in a variety of educational learning experiences, eating nutritious meals, and looking after our toys and environment. Additionally, we share toys with peers, listen to our teachers, and learn from them.
Family
Blue Room families believe: Whenever possible, it is important for caregivers to be attuned to children’s emotional needs, i.e., when children are upset, frustrated, or sad, we seek to understand, show empathy, soothe, and help them make sense of their emotions.
We act to: Be great role models for our children, showing them that it is okay to express emotions and teaching them how to manage their emotions positively.
Yellow Room families believe: It is important to foster children¿s friendships by providing opportunities for positive peer interactions.
We act to: Work collaboratively with educators to emphasize positive interactions at home.
Green Room families believe: It is important to have freshly prepared meals at NBK.
We act to: Provide feedback on the menu and contribute to policy surveys related to menu reviews.
Educators
Blue Group educators believe: Children deserve to learn about the world in a way that reflects the one in which they are growing up.
We act to: Teach children using an anti-bias approach.
We act to: Ensure that our program and teaching methods reflect the diversity of the children and their families and celebrate it.
Yellow Group educators believe: Diversity enriches our society and provides a valid evidence base for different ways of knowing.
We act to: Promote children’s sense of belonging through various cultural celebrations and experiences. As educators, we will model sharing our culture with the children.
We act to: Make curriculum decisions that uphold all children’s rights to have their cultures, identities, languages, capabilities, and strengths acknowledged and valued.
Green Group educators believe: Children deserve a high-quality education, nurturing them to become independent thinkers and responsible citizens with a strong sense of autonomy in their community.
We act to: Provide opportunities for children to make choices, pay close attention to their voices, and encourage them to shape our program and routine.
